Broken Promises

Day 24. Have you ever made a New Year’s Resolution that you kept?

I almost fell off the chair laughing when I saw todays Daily Prompt! Strange, but I was always led to believe the purpose of New Year resolutions were for them to be broken. Right? Or was that promises? Well, same shoe, just a different colour.

In answer to the question, which you can gather by now the result, a resounding big, fat, NO. Of course I’ve never kept one, I’m human. Oh, I’ve made empty promises to become a better person, lose weight and all the other usual blah-blah garbage that spouted from my mouth, while I smiled mischievously knowing I’d no chance of fulfilling the said quota for a month, let alone a year.

No, I’m a lobbyist for the ante-resolutions party. Why add to the pressure we already place upon ourselves, haven’t we learned our lessons by now. And where will it all end, will we be expecting our beloved pets to toe the line, as well.

Look, I’m all for self-improvement, just not for the benefit of an age-old tradition. So you can keep your resolutions, I’ll fix myself when the need arises, in my own sweet time and under my terms.

I’m not much for resolutions, either — especially ones timed to a calendar page. If something seems like a good idea, then you should just do it. My only goal these days is to mono-task — the opposite of multi-task. I’m trying to give whatever it is that I’m doing my full attention. Harder than it sounds.
