I Have an Idea!

A date thingy? Ah! Calendar

December 2012

Come tomorrow, BlogFestivus 2012 will be over. And if I’m truthful, I’m really going to miss it. I’ve loved meeting new people, believe me when I say that is not an easy thing for me to do. Although it has been easier via blogging. Put me in a room with them and I’d be the shrinking violet in the corner.

However, I’ve also enjoyed experimenting with this style of flash fiction. Whether its proved itself as writing, I’m not sure. But it got me thinking. At present, I’m working on novels ranging from 50,000 up to 100,000+. So what I’m asking you, what do you think of reading a book with each chapter based on 300 words? In total, a book with 112 chapters making 33,600 words in total? By the end of next year, I could have three short books in the making.

Mathematical breakdown:

300 words per day – 2,100 words per week – 8,400 words per month (4 week month) – times by 4 months = 33,600. That’s 112 chapters.

So, what do you think? Is it a good idea? Or should I just forget it?

I’d love to hear your thoughts. And if it is plausible, I’d love to hear any ideas on subject matter, Age range etc.

Thanks for taking the time to read.

As my attention span is a little short I am quite drawn to the idea of shortish chapters. I don’t think I know how many words a ‘normal’ book has! Hold on…..I just googled how many words are in The Da Vinci Code (I know-where did that one come from!) and it came up as 188,000 and it’s quite long. Right…what do I think? I have really enjoyed doing Blogfestivus and will miss the buzz of it too. I think that it could be a really good challenge (another one) and I have to say I rather like the idea myself. It may be a good idea just for the discipline too (well for me!). I think it’s a very interesting idea 🙂

I think that’s a great idea and if you have the discipline to pull it off, then go for it! If anything, it will be an interesting experiment.
I’ve kinda got the opposite going on. I’ve written a ton of short stories, a lot of which are flash fiction, and now I’m attempting to write my first novel. It’s a completely different beast, that’s for sure.

A novel sure is a different beast. The one I’m editing at the moment, went from 136,000 words to 84,000 and is now sitting at 105,261 exactly! Not that it isn’t fun and hard work and tonnes of tears, but good luck with your’s.;)
