Write 500 words on any topic you like. Now remove 250 of them without changing the essence of your post.
Well, this one got the old grey cells tweaking. What could I write when are there so many things I like? Then it came to me. Nothing. Okay, before you click off to another blog, let me explain.
Nothing, to me, could mean the small piece of time when no one is around. Like when I wake at 4:00am in the morning — the time I rise to fulfill my writing quota — make the first mug of tea for the day and just sit quietly by myself and breathe in the solitude. Not a thing crosses my mind as I stare off into space and let my brain awaken.
Or, it could mean, the blank screen I stare at sometimes. The dreaded pressure of trying to write something, when all I get in return is nothing. I scour my head for ideas, the pressure builds, but still nothing.
But then, it could also mean just a simple word of innocence uttered from the mouths of children. I can remember a couple such occasions when my son was little, taking a pair of scissors and cutting his hair, or painting the walls and carpet with my make up. What was the reply he gave in answer when asked, ‘Nothing’.
So, if you take the time to think about it, Nothing could means lots of things or just, a simple word.
Actual piece 230 words.
